Statement on COVID-19 - Updated March 24, 2020

The Botany 2020 Leadership Team including the Presidents and Program Directors of all Botany 2020 participating societies is closely following the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 virus and the resulting COVID-19 disease.
For the past few weeks, we have been considering all options in relation to the impact of COVID-19 on our meeting in Anchorage.  At this time, we are in a holding pattern.  After consultation and discussions with legal counsel and the conference venue and hotels, it has been determined that despite the current pandemic situation, there are significant financial penalties (hundreds of thousands of dollars) should we choose to cancel or postpone the conference AT THIS TIME.
The global outlook and situation in the state of Alaska are changing daily, and we are exploring all options including but not limited to a virtual conference and rescheduling Botany 2020 in Alaska for a different date/year. As the situation changes in the coming weeks, we will provide further information to participants.
In light of the current uncertainty, we have extended the abstract submission deadline to April 30. We encourage you to go ahead and submit your abstractregister and make your hotel reservations for Botany 2020.  It will be easier to cancel if needed than to make arrangements at the last minute.   Each of the hotels has generous cancellation policies – check them out here.  We understand that many, if not most of you, are under travel restrictions.  However, if you are making flight arrangements, make sure you review all refund and cancellation policies with the airlines to ensure flexibility.

The safety of our members, attendees, and staff is the highest priority. If we need to cancel, we will fully refund your registration fees.  We appreciate your patience and understanding during this unprecedented and unpredictable time.  If you have any questions, please email:
If for some reason your scientific conference is or will be canceled - consider joining us.  We would love to have you!
